An experienced voice actor who did voiceover work for numerous TV shows died last weekend in a skydiving accident in Houston. The accident occurred when he and another skydiver collided following a group skydive.
He and the other skydiver were very experienced and both had done at least one skydive earlier in the day. The two jumpers deployed their parachutes normally, and they collided afterwards. Both sustained injuries in the collision and upon landing, and one of the men died. The men were jumping at Skydive Spaceland Houston.
Since Skydive Spaceland Houston opened in 1999, there have been nine deaths. Several were due to parachute malfunctions. Two were killed when their chutes got tangled during a jump.
Skydiving is an inherently dangerous activity, and typically participants must sign releases which release the operator from any liability. However, in some situations one or more parties can still be held liable for damages, depending on whether any negligence was involved, and depending on the language in the release. Some parties that could potentially be held liable include the recreation center, the instructor, the training center, the manufacturer or retailer of the products used, and the property owner.
If you have been injured or a loved one has been injured or killed in a dangerous activity, such as skydiving, you should speak with an attorney. You may have legal options to pursue. We can help. Call us today to schedule a free consultation on your case.
