Tragically, a child was killed and her father was left in critical condition after an accident in Harris County this week. The accident occurred when a sedan and an 18-wheeler were traveling westbound on the East Freeway near Crosby Lynchburg Road.
According to police, it appears that the truck may have tried to merge into the sedan’s lane. As a result, the sedan went over a guardrail and landed below the freeway. The father, who was driving, was trapped in the vehicle. He had to be extracted from the vehicle and flown to the hospital via LifeFlight. A 24-year-old woman in the vehicle was unhurt. A four-year-old girl in the vehicle was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both of the adults were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, but the child was not in a child seat or wearing a seatbelt.
This very tragic accident illustrates the importance of the use of car seats for children and seatbelts. When an accident occurs, in many cases seatbelts and car seats are often the difference between life and death.
