A bicyclist was killed in Houston after a collision with an SUV. The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. near the inbound service road of the Katy Freeway at Beltway 8. Officials believe that the bicycle was traveling north on the Beltway 8 service road while the vehicle was heading eastbound on the Katy Freeway service road. The bicyclist failed to stop at the red light.
The bicyclist was transported to the hospital, where he died. The driver of the SUV remained at the scene. According to officers, he was not impaired. He was released without being charged. While officers were on the scene, someone stole the bicycle belonging to the deceased bicyclist. Police believe that the bike may have been stolen by a friend who was riding with the bicyclist.
Unfortunately, bicyclists are killed or injured in the U.S. daily by automobiles. In some cases, they may have been responsible for the crash, while in other cases, they were blameless and were harmed by negligent drivers. If you are a bicyclist in Houston who was injured in an accident with an automobile, regardless of the role you played in the accident, you should document the events that occurred. You may have a legal right to compensation. Normally, after an accident, you should take photographs of the scene and locate witnesses, if you are able. You should never admit fault in an accident, and before accepting an offer from an insurance company, you should speak with an attorney.
