Earlier this week, an oil field worker was killed in an accident in Brazoria County. The accident occurred in Alvin. A pulley (called a snatch block) broke, which caused part of an oil rig to fall, crushing to worker. When the accident occurred, workers were trying to move a piece of equipment to the top of an oil field platform. The equipment that fell weighs several thousand pounds.
The oil industry can be lucrative for workers, but the work is generally hard and dangerous. Even a small safety breach can result in a serious accident or injuries. Workers can be struck by falling equipment or may fall off oil platforms. They may slip and fall on discarded objects or may be exposed to toxic chemicals.
Workers who are injured in the oil and gas industry can often suffer long-term effects of their injuries. They may have extensive bills for medical treatment or rehabilitation. They may be unable to work and could lose income as a result of the accident. An experienced attorney can help the injured worker obtain compensation for their injuries through workers’ compensation or a lawsuit, or through other legal methods.
