A 14 year old was seriously injured after she was involved in a hit-and-run accident in South Houston last week. The accident occurred near Cullen Middle School, which is in front of Yellowstone Park.
According to the girl’s mother, the girl, her younger sister, and some friends were walking to the middle school in the afternoon to pick up the girl’s brother. A gang of girls allegedly started a fight with the girls as they were walking, and the fight quickly turned into a brawl. As the fight was occurring, a silver car plowed into the 14 year old.
The 14 year old suffered a crushed pelvis, fractured ribs, damage to her liver, a broken leg and broken hips. According to police, the car involved is a 2012 Dodge Avenger. The driver is a woman in her 20s. The Houston Police Department is investigating the fight as well as the accident and says that no arrests have been made.
When a driver hits an individual in their car and flees, there’s usually a reason – he or she may be intoxicated or high on drugs, the individual may not have a driver’s license or insurance, there may be outstanding warrants involved, or the driver may simply have panicked. When the individual is caught, he or she may face not only criminal charges, but also civil charges. The person who has been injured has legal rights, and can legally sue to recover damages.
