Uloric is a medication that has been prescribed to help with chronic gout. Uloric is manufactured by Takeda Pharmaceuticals. Currently, there are ongoing lawsuits against Takeda Pharmaceuticals for cardiovascular risks that are associated with Uloric that the company failed to disclose. Anyone who suffered any serious side effects from taking Uloric may have grounds for compensation.
Uloric is used to treat gout, which is a type of arthritis which can cause severe pain, redness, and swelling in the joints. Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the bloodstream. Patients who have gout have a higher risk of other medical conditions, such as cardiovascular events.
Unfortunately, there are not many treatments that are available for gout. The most common medication in the past to treat gout is Allopurinol. Uloric is the first new medication that the FDA approved to treat gout in over 40 years. The FDA approved Uloric in 2009, with the requirement that the company conduct a safety clinical trial. Over the next eight years, the company studied Uloric’s effects in over 6,000 patients, and found that Uloric has an increased risk of heart attacks, strokes, and angina. However, the FDA did not require that Uloric print a warning of the serious risks with the medication until February 2019, so patients may not have been aware of the risks.
If you have been harmed by Uloric, you should speak with an attorney. We can help. Call us today to learn more or to schedule a free consultation.
