Migraine Medications Recalled Due To Possible Bacteria Contamination

Pfizer has recalled a migraine medication because of potential contamination with bacteria. The recall was for Relpax in 40-milligram tablets.

The bacteria the medication could potentially be contaminated with is from the genus pseudomonas and the genus burkholderia. These bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause serious, life-threatening infections. The people who are most at risk for becoming seriously ill from the bacteria are those with compromised immune systems.

Pfizer did not disclose how the medications could have potentially become infected. Patients with the recalled medication should return it to their pharmacy. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injury because of the contamination.
