Millions Ignoring Recall Of Deadly Takata Airbag Recall

Tens of millions of vehicles have been recalled since 2013 related to a problem with airbags manufactured by Takata. The airbags were installed in over 70 million vehicles made by 19 different manufacturers. The airbags have been found to explode under some conditions, sending lethal metal shrapnel throughout the vehicle.

Despite all of the news about the recalls and the dangers of continuing to drive a vehicle with a Takata airbag, millions of vehicles are continuing to drive with the Takata airbags. It’s been estimated that 14 million people are driving vehicles with the deadly airbags.

In an effort to get more people to repair the vehicles, Toyota has teamed with an organization called the Carma Project in order to motivate people to repair their vehicles. The Carma Project awards its members with something called CarmaCoins, which members can use to get gift cards to various retail establishments. CarmaCoins are awarded for doing things like looking up your own vehicle to see about the recall, for alerting others about the recall, and learning about the Takata recall. Members can earn up to $55 in gift cards for each eligible vehicle that they help get fixed.

It is alarming that millions of people are driving vehicles that could potentially be lethal in the event of an accident.
