Assisted living facilities are a wonderful solution for many families. They are perfect for adults who can no longer live independently, but who do not need full nursing care. Although residents at assisted living facilities still have some independence and are generally in better health than nursing home residents, they still need help from caregivers. Since they are still reliant on others, the residents can be at risk of neglect and even abuse.
The good news is that most assisted living centers do provide a safe environment for their residents. Many of the elderly are in declining health, and over time become dependent on their caregivers. If the staff is negligent, accidents can happen. Some injuries that could occur include falls, injuries from abuse, and malnutrition.
Tragically, abuse is all too common at assisted living facilities. Although residents are generally in better health than nursing home residents, they can still be targets for abuse and neglect. Some types of abuse and neglect that may occur include physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse, and neglect.
Elderly residents of an assisted living facility deserve high quality care and respect. No one deserves to be treated badly or to suffer injuries while living in an assisted living facility. If you or a family member has been abused, injured or neglected while living in an assisted living facility, you may be able to receive compensation for your injuries.
