New mind-altering drugs that are being sold as legal alternatives to marijuana and cocaine have many experts worried. Because the drugs are new and have not in many cases been thoroughly tested, they can have unpredictable results. The drugs are also not closely monitored and may combine potentially deadly ingredients. In addition, the drugs flow through the market so quickly that researchers do not have time to understand their effects before a new batch reaches the market.
The six most common types of new synthetic drugs being produced are synthetic marijuana, replacement stimulants, replacement psychedelics, replacement dissociatives, replacement sedatives, and replacement opioids. Many of these drugs produce very different effects and can be much more potent than the traditional drugs they are replacing. For example, synthetic marijuana, which is sometimes called K2 and Spice, has been linked with 1,000 deaths since 2009. Another common deadly synthetic drug is called flakka, which is meant to mimic the effects of hallucinogens and amphetamines. Flakka is a chemical cousin of cocaine and amphetamines, and it has been linked with several episodes of violent and dangerous behavior.
These dangerous drugs are sold legally, but many can have more dangerous effects than legal drugs. The manufacturers of these drugs can be held legally liable if someone is injured after taking them. If you have suffered medical issues after taking a legal drug, we could help you obtain compensation for your injuries.
