Tragically, two workers were killed in an industrial accident in east Harris County. According to authorities, the men were working one night last week at Spitzer Industries. Spitzer industries is a custom steel fabricator and is located on Industrial Road near the Houston Ship Channel. During their shift, a piece of heavy equipment flipped onto both men. One man died at the scene and the other man died at the hospital. A third person was treated at the scene.
Industrial accidents such as this one are very common. Although employers have a duty to provide a safe work environment for employees that protects them from being injured on the job, many fail to do so. Industrial workplaces have higher than average rates of injury for their workers. When an employee is injured or killed on the job, the employee or his or her family deserves to be fairly compensated for their losses.
Industrial accidents can be much more serious than accidents in other workplaces. The accidents that occur often injure multiple employees, as occurred here. Also, the injuries are typically much more serious than in other workplaces. When an industrial accident occurs, there are usually a couple of ways an employee may be able to obtain compensation for his or her injuries. One is through workers’ compensation, which compensates employees injured on the job for their injuries. The other is through a lawsuit filed against either the employer or another party responsible for the accident.
