Tragically, two tractor trailer drivers were killed in two separate accidents involving bridges in the Houston area. The first occurred on July 3 when a tractor trailer was cut off by another vehicle and fell off the Houston Ship Channel bridge. Eyewitnesses believe he tried to avoid hitting another vehicle, overshot, and fell down the freeway. The vehicle landed upside down on an industrial facility below the bridge. The driver initially survived the accident but died during the rescue attempt.
On June 27, a tractor trailer crashed off a bridge near Houston on I-10 and landed in the San Jacinto River. The accident occurred around 3:30 am when a Chevy Cavalier collided with a different tractor trailer. A police officer was interviewing the occupants of the Cavalier when another tractor trailer drove by and swerved away from the Cavalier. It went through the guardrail and crashed into the river, killing the driver.
Unfortunately, accidents involving tractor trailers are not uncommon. Tractor trailers are a pervasive presence on the highways and freeways surrounding Houston and are responsible for delivering most of the goods that people consume daily. Truckers are often on tight schedules and may operate on little sleep.
If you are a trucker who has been harmed in an accident, or if you were harmed in an accident with a tractor trailer, you should speak with an attorney to explore your legal options.
