A Minnesota judge on Tuesday ordered Wal-Mart to pay $6.5 million in compensatory damages for violating state labor laws more than 2 million times. District Judge Robert King found the nation’s largest retailer willfully denied employees rest and meal breaks and forced employees to work off-the-clock. Tuesday’s decision sets the stage for an October trial in which Wal-Mart could face as much as $2 billion in penalties and punitive damages. Margaret Cronin Fisk, Bloomberg 07/01/2008
